Pomona College and our economics students thank the following alumni advisors for their input and guidance on our research projects.

Alan L. Boyce '82 (Chesapeake Energy)

CEO | Absalon • Los Angeles, California
Alan Boyce is CEO of Absalon, a joint venture between VP Securities and Soros Fund Management. Its purpose is to educate and empower countries to adopt the beneficial attributes of the Danish mortgage system, and he is currently working with George Soros on an initiative to restructure the U.S. mortgage market. He is also Director of Adecoagro, a diversified agricultural production company operating in Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay which is listed on the NYSE (AGRO). He is co-founder and Director of Agrica Ltd, the founder and CEO of Westlands Solar Farms, a California renewable energy company based in Fresno County, and is the founder and Chairman of Materra Farms, a California based agricultural production company specializing in the production of animal feed. Before Countrywide Bank, FSB was sold to Bank of America, Boyce was Senior Managing Director of Investment Strategies. While at Countrywide, Boyce was responsible for management and leadership of the bank's investment and funding strategies that produce the highest risk-adjusted returns and the lowest cost of funds. He also oversaw securities and loan purchase activities, trades and strategies, as well as investment portfolio performance. Prior to joining Countrywide in 2007, Boyce served as Director of Special Situations at Soros Fund Management LLC. During those years with Soros, he managed a portfolio of assets of the Quantum Funds and had principal operational responsibilities for the bulk of Soros' investments in Latin America. Boyce coordinated the establishment of Glacier Re, a Swiss Domicile reinsurance company in 2004 and served as chief executive officer. Before joining Soros Fund Management, Boyce served for fourteen years as Managing Director, in charge of Fixed Income Arbitrage with Bankers Trust. Prior to that, he worked for the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, D.C. Boyce holds an MBA degree from Stanford University and a B.A. in Economics from Pomona College.

David Cho '00 (Samsung)

Manager | Bain and Associates • New York, New York
David Cho is a manager at Bain and Associates in New York. He was also co-founder and CEO of Sidebark based in San Francisco, Sidebark was a company that helped customers share videos privately. He focuses on digital media. Dave has also worked in Bain's Los Angeles, Singapore, and Hong Kong offices. His work spanned a number of areas, including digital strategy, customer insights, organizational design and product development. In addition to his client work, Dave served as the Associate Consultant (AC) program manager in the New York office and as the program manager for Bain's global Associate Consultant Training (ACT) program. Dave holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA from Pomona College in Economics.
Sayre Craig is a second year MBA student at Stanford University. Prior to Stanford, Sayre worked at Valiant Capital Partners, a San Francisco based investment partnership, where he worked on both public and private equity investments. Earlier, he worked for JPMorgan in New York. Sayre received his B.A. in Economics from Pomona College in 2008.

Anthony Kent Fisher '87 (Ryanair)

Vice President, Supply Chain | Boeing Commercial Aircraft • Everett, Washington
Kent Fisher is the vice president and general manager of Boeing Commercial Airplanes' Supplier Management organization. Named to this position in September 2011, Fisher has responsibility for the overall strategy, contracting, daily management and development of the Boeing Commercial Airplanes supply chain, which supports the manufacture and after market support of all Boeing commercial airplanes.

Fisher has held a variety of posts in his more than 18 years with Boeing, through which he has progressively deepened his understanding of commercial aviation. Prior to joining BCA Supplier Management, Fisher held positions in Supply Chain Strategy, New Airplane Business Development, Market Analysis, Air Traffic Management, and Sales.

Before joining Boeing, Fisher held various positions at Price Waterhouse in its litigation and bankruptcy consulting group in Los Angeles and Seattle. Fisher holds a bachelor's degree in Economics from Pomona College and a master's degree in Business Administration from the University of California - Los Angeles.

Sam Glick '09 (Sprouts)

Principal in Oliver Wyman's Health and Life Sciences
Sam Glick is a Principal in Oliver Wyman's Health and Life Sciences practice, based in San Francisco. He focuses on consumer-centric healthcare, working with leading health plans, employers, and retailers to create innovative, engaging programs to bend trend. He is an author of several recent Oliver Wyman points of view, including A Billion-Dollar Decision: Charting a New Course for US Healthcare Benefits and Private Exchanges Change the Game. Sam also leads Oliver Wyman's private exchange research and intellectual capital development efforts.

Previously, Sam was a Senior Manager at Accenture, and a Principal in the Strategy and Corporate Development group at Mercer, where he led global business strategy, new offer development, merger, acquisition, and divestiture activities. He also spent six years as the founder and chief executive of Algebra Online, a web-based educational services business.

Sam received his BA with honors in economics from Pomona College, and was a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar and North American Postgraduate Scholar in the MSc program in economics at the University of Warwick. He serves on the Pomona College Board of Trustees.

Philip B. Hathaway '00 (Scientific Games Corporation)

Director of Corporate Strategy, Dolby Laboratories • San Francisco, California
Phil is Senior Director of Strategy at Dolby Laboratories in San Francisco, where he helps lead the corporate strategy, business planning and M&A efforts. Dolby is the leader in delivering immersive audio entertainment across cinema, TV, PC and mobile devices. Prior to joining Dolby in 2011, Phil spent five years at Microsoft, splitting his time between strategy and finance for the Microsoft Office division. Earlier, Phil spent several years in M&A investment banking in Los Angeles. Phil has a B.A. in economics from Pomona and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management.

Victor Liu '98 (Potbelly)

Senior Vice President | FPA Funds • Los Angeles, California
Victor Liu graduated from Pomona College in 1998 as an economics major. While at Pomona College, he interned at Asia Financial Group with Pomona alumnus Bernard Chan in Hong Kong. Following graduation, he served as a Rotary Ambassador in Taiwan, worked as a management consultant at McKinsey and Company and as an investment banker at Merrill Lynch where he did corporate finance, and mergers & acquisitions. He has also done international equity research at Causeway Capital Management with a focus on the technology and automotive industries. Victor currently serves as Analyst for the FPA International Value Fund. He is a CFA Charterholder.

Susan V. Helfrey Monson '92 (Foundation Medicine)

Consultant | CloudBase Services • San Francisco, California
Susie Monson has spent the last 15 years of her career building out Operations and Finance functions at 3 different start-up companies. She now works with CloudBase Services, a small consulting firm specializing in business process design and database development. Previously, Susie was Director of Operations at Sunrun, the leading provider of residential solar in the USA. At Sunrun, Susie was originally responsible for all customer operations, customer service, and installation partner management. Prior to joining SunRun in 2008, Susie worked for six years first as Director of Finance and then Director of Operations at PayCycle, Inc., a provider of web-based payroll services for small businesses. Before PayCycle, Susie worked as VP Operations for NextMonet, a direct marketer of fine art, where she was in charge of all customer service and framing operations. Susie's additional work experience includes IBM, Exxon Corporation, and the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. Susie graduated from Pomona College in 1992 with a concentration in economics and she holds an MBA from Stanford University.

Erik Nierenberg '97 (LinkedIn)

Vice President, Sales Development | Salesforce.com • San Francisco, California
Erik Nierenberg is currently Vice President of Strategy and Business Development for Chatter at salesforce.com (NYSE: CRM), the global leader in Cloud Computing software. Nierenberg has been at salesforce.com for 3 years in a variety of roles across sales, strategy, business development, and product. Previously, Nierenberg was a Principal and Venture Partner with Enterprise Partners Venture Capital with a primary focus within software, consumer Internet, online advertising, and wireless technologies. Board of Director seats included Devicescape, Expresso Fitness, and Specific Media. He had additional Board and management involvement at IdenTrust (acq. By Polaris), Dragonwave (NASDAQ: DRWI), Ascendent Systems (acquired by RIM) and Tarari (acquired by LSI). Prior to joining Enterprise Partners, Erik spent five years with Bain & Company where he led growth strategy, operations and marketing initiatives across industries including technology, media, consumer products, and retail. Nierenberg also was a Case Team Leader within Bain's Private Equity Group doing M&A and due diligence in a variety of industries. Earlier in his career, Nierenberg worked in product management at Netscape and was one of the founding employees of The Bridgecol-md- Group which is a bi-coastal nonprofit organization. Erik received a M.B.A from the Stanford Graduate School of Business as well as a degree in Economics from Pomona College where he was captain of the lacrosse team.

Jeff Parks '02 (Tesla)

Riverwood Capital • Menlo Park, California
Jeff Parks is a founding partner of Riverwood Capital. Riverwood is a globally focused private equity firm that invests in high-growth businesses in the technology and services industries, across a variety of verticals and geographies. Today, Riverwood has approximately $1 billion of capital under management, and is led by six partners with a total of over 100 years of relevant experience. Prior to Riverwood, Jeff was an investment executive at Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co ("KKR"), where he focused on a variety of private equity investments in the technology sector. Prior to joining KKR, Jeff was an investment professional in the Principal Opportunities Fund at Oaktree Capital Management, where he focused on private equity opportunities in distressed companies. Previously, Jeff was with UBS Investment Bank in Los Angeles, where he was involved in a variety of mergers & acquisitions, as well as financing transactions across several industries. Jeff received his dual B.A. in Economics and Mathematics from Pomona College. He was a member of Carnegie Consulting, the very first of the Pomona College senior seminars in corporate strategy. He headed up the project on Ford Motor Company.

Matt Thompson '96 (Netflix)

Vice President, Portfolio Operations | Skyview Capital • Beverly Hills, California
Matt Thompson is VP of Portfolio Operations at Skyview Capital. The firm specializes in the acquisition and strategic management of businesses in the services and technology sectors. Matt also serves as SVP of Corporate Development at NewNet and as Chief Strategy Officer of Mimio LLC. Previously Matt was Vice President at The Gores Group, a private equity firm. Matt is responsible for portfolio company financial oversight and controls as well as leading financial due diligence activities. Prior to joining Gores, Matt was a Director at FTI Consulting, concentrating on financial and operational restructurings for Communications and Media clients. Prior to FTI, he spent three years as a Director of Corporate Development at Sony Pictures Entertainment, where he completed over $400 million of acquisitions, divestitures, and business launches of television networks and new media properties globally. Prior to Sony, Matt was a Senior Associate in the restructuring practice of Alvarez and Marsal. He also served as a Technology M&A Summer Associate at JPMorgan. Matt holds a B.A. in Biology and Economics from Pomona College and an MBA from Stanford. He is a Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor. Matt is also an active member of Tech Coast Angels.
Jenn Wilcox Thomas is a first year MBA student at the the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Previously, Jenn was an associate at Summit Rock Advisors in NYC, where she helped craft customized investment management solutions for philanthropic families and charitable entities. Prior to joining Summit Rock, Jenn worked in the Investment Banking Division of Goldman Sachs, where she focused on financing public sector and infrastructure projects. She currently serves on the Board of Advisors for Spark--a non-profit women's advocacy organization based in San Francisco--and founded its New York chapter, SparkNYC. Jenn also serves on the Social Investment Council for Echoing Green, a venture philanthropy program for social entrepreneurs. Jenn earned a B.A. in Economics with departmental honors from Pomona College in Claremont, CA, and currently serves on Pomona's Board of Trustees. She grew up outside Minneapolis and enjoys tennis, downhill skiing and travel.
